21st Century Texas: US District Judge threatens to lock up Texas prison administrator for violating his federal court order… to keep Texas prison temps below 85 degrees.

Visibly frustrated with the Texas prison system for violating his court order to place some inmates in air conditioning, U.S. District Judge Keith Ellison threatened Friday to lock up prison officials in the same stifling temperatures.“It seems the most obvious sanction is pretty straightforward,” he said in an emergency hearing in his Houston courtroom. “We ought to have prison officials in prison at the same temperature.”The hearing was the latest development in a five-year lawsuit over the heat in one of 75 Texas prison units that do not have air conditioning in inmate housing areas.

Why Is No One Discussing Rising Anti-Semitic Violence In New York City

“Over this past week, there have been four violent anti-Semitic assaults in Brooklyn, New York. Wheeler and Hammer discussed why it is the case that anti-Semitic violence may be on the rise and, just as importantly, why political leaders — which, in New York City, are nearly exclusively Democrats — seem to barely be paying attention to the harrowing phenomenon.

Wheeler began by pointing out how “Democrats, on the campaign trail, constantly condemn hatred and bigotry and violence of any kind — and yet, when this [violence] is in their own district and it’s anti-Semitism that motivates the violence, we hear nothing from them.””

Texas mass shooting suspect latest: Gunman called both police and FBI before shooting rampage in Odessa – CBS News

Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted Monday that “we must keep guns out of criminals’ hands” — words similar to his remarks that followed another mass shooting in El Paso on August 3, when he said firearms must be kept from “deranged killers.” But Abbott, a Republican and avid gun rights supporter, has been noncommittal about tightening Texas gun laws.

He also tweeted that Ator failed a previous gun background check and didn’t go through one for the weapon he used in Odessa. He did not elaborate, and a spokesman referred questions to the Texas Department of Public Safety, which didn’t immediately respond for comment.

Texas AG Goes To US Supreme Court In Support Of Ending DACA

Paxton says Texas spends $250 million a year on health care, education and law enforcement for non-citizens. He says DACA puts “undue financial strain” on states. The brief says only Congress has the authority to grant lawful status to an entire class of aliens. Paxton says DACA “unilaterally granted lawful presence and work permits to over 1.7 million unlawfully-present aliens in defiance of laws enacted by Congress.”

Harry Reid: ‘Of Course’ Medicare for All and Decriminalizing Border Crossings Are Bad Ideas

““There are so many more important things to do. Decriminalizing border crossings is not something that should be at the top of the list. It should be way, way down at the bottom of the list,” Reid said, responding with a curt “of course it is” when asked if supporting that position would be politically problematic in the general election.

“There are so many more important things to do.”

“People want a fair immigration system. They don’t want an open-door invitation for everybody to come at once,” argued Reid.”
